About

Stacey, The Fantasy Wordslinger -- professional beta reader and proofreader for indie fantasy authors

About

Hi, I’m Stacey

Your fantasy-obsessed editor who lives for emotionally deep characters, character driven plot, and stories that keep readers turning pages.

As an author, what could be better than your readers being unable to put down your book? To tap into the heart of your reader and elicit a wide variety of emotions? To make them cry and care when your characters hurt or encounter hardship, and root for them when they’re chasing a goal or dream?

Beta Reading

As a professional beta reader, I specialise in helping authors tap into the emotions of their readers, hooking them to your story and protagonists.

With a fascination with what makes us root for antagonists and relate to the morally grey character, I can help you ensure your characters feel developed, well-rounded, and that your story is evoking the emotions from your readers that you actually want.

Why work with me?

  • Detailed 3-5 page feedback report and in-line comments
  • Character focused feedback
  • Focus on emotional depth and reader immersion
  • Experienced fantasy editor
  • Genuine fantasy fan and writer

Proofreading

No author wants to publish their book only to find embarrassing typos, syntax or spelling errors. To find inconsistencies with names, places, or even eye colour.

By offering final polish proofreading, I help authors like you feel confident that when you publish your book, it is free of errors so that the focus can stay on your story, and your readers do not get drawn out of their immersion by errors or inconsistencies.

  • Trained in proofreading with CIEP
  • Experienced commercial copywriter (nearly 10 years experience)

5 star google review praising Stacey for character focused professional edit

“I want to thank Stacey at The Fantasy Wordslinger (TFW) for the content edit of my first manuscript. Stacey was prompt and responsive to all my questions, despite a significant time difference (Stacey is in the UK; I am in the US).

Prior to hiring TFW, we communicated several times via email to be sure we would be a good fit. TFW asked detailed questions about the theme, characters, and main issues where I wanted feedback.

With a content edit, TFW provided a 10-page editorial letter, as well as in-manuscript notes for the first section of the MS. I was promised comments in 6-8 weeks, and received them in just over 6 weeks, well within the agreed-upon deadline.

I especially appreciated the notes provided within the manuscript. Those comments fleshed out the themes she made in her editorial letter, and helped give me a better idea of where and how I could implement specific suggestions. Because of the review, I now have a clearer vision for the character arc of my protagonist, as well as ideas to better create and resolve tension within the manuscript.
